About Me: Dan Powell

A behind the scenes glimpse of who Dan Powell really is.

behind the scenes

I’ve lived in Florida since the mid-90s, but Pennsylvania will always be part of who I am. A very blue collar upbringing. I grew up there, went to Penn State, earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, and like a lot of people, spent years trying to figure out who I was supposed to be versus who I actually was.

The winter of 1993 was probably the final straw for me. After one too many brutal Pennsylvania winters, I finally decided it was time for a change. A little over a year later, I packed up my life and moved to Florida. Looking back now, that move represented a lot more than just escaping the snow. It was the beginning of a completely new chapter in my life.

Life has humbled me more than once.

There have been seasons where I felt confident and driven, and other seasons where I felt completely lost, uncertain, or forced to rebuild parts of myself from the ground up. Some of the most important lessons in my life didn’t come from success. They came from failure, mistakes, difficult seasons, and moments where I had to take a hard look in the mirror and decide whether I was willing to grow.

I’m naturally someone who thinks deeply about people, purpose, growth, and why we do the things we do. Leadership eventually became a huge part of my life, but not in the way most people think. It started with learning how to better manage my own mindset, emotions, communication, and decisions. Over time, that personal growth changed the way I approached everything — relationships, work, challenges, and the way I show up for others.

Outside of work, music has always been a big part of my life. I’ve spent years performing and singing, and honestly, music has probably taught me just as much about connection and vulnerability as leadership ever has. I’m also a huge dog lover. My dogs have taught me a lot about unconditional love, loyalty, and being present in the moment — lessons that are easy to overlook in a busy world.

I’m also a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan… yeah, don’t laugh. Growing up in Pennsylvania, that loyalty runs deep. And back in college, I boxed for a little while. I wasn’t very good at it honestly — mostly I just got punched in the face a lot — but looking back, it probably taught me something about resilience and getting back up after taking a hit.

There was also a major turning point in my life years ago where I remember praying hard for change, clarity, and a new direction. A few weeks later, I met my wife, Melanie. To this day, I still look at that moment as one of the clearest answers to prayer I’ve ever experienced. She brought peace, stability, love, and perspective into my life in a way I didn’t even realize I needed at the time.

Today, we enjoy working out together, catching a good theater show, and simply spending quality time together. Those moments help keep me grounded and remind me that success means very little if you don’t slow down enough to appreciate life and the people you love.

More than anything, I care about authenticity. I don’t pretend to have life completely figured out, and I think people connect more through honesty than perfection anyway. I’ve learned that growth is rarely comfortable, but it’s almost always worth it.
